Hey yall, Greg Mitchell here with another life sketch at a coffee shop. I’d have to say that since I’ve been between jobs I’ve gone to a coffee shop literally every day to work ( I switch em up so that I never become a regular at any one shop). Anywho, recently my life sketches have become increasingly abstract in terms of color and light. I would paint them with accurate color then go mad with my adjustments like a kid in a candy store which usually meant a lot of magenta was added to each piece. Unfortunately, I don’t feel that doing this is helping my creative pieces. I blame it on my mom who has been an abstract painter my whole life hahaha. Though in my eyes it makes “cool” work thats visually appealing on screen it doesn’t exactly garner too too much emotional impact. Now I’m making a conscience effort to achieve a greater reality with my color by taking some lessons from such modern inspiring artist as Dice Tsutsumi, Lisa Keene, Steve Pilcher, Paul Lesaine and Craig Mullins. No worries I’ll still make sure to keep the “me-ness” through out it all but they definitely need better atmosphere. Also I’m nearly done with my next large scale piece I’m calling a “feature frame.” It’s the Monkey King’s Hanging Coliseum and it’s coming along rather nicely and you can check out the progress in the Portfolio tab! Once that’ done I can get back to doing a greater volume of creative work, which is my favorite kind of work.
