I’ve been doing quite a bit of digital repaint studies lately but for this study I chose colors based upon how I wanted a little scene to feel with no reference at all. The studies have definitely helped my sense of color but my scenes all feel flat to me and they lack the gut wrench emotion that I crave to achieve. I feel that this is because I’m doing too much of my color work digitally which is causing my colors to lose touch with the natural world. To fix this issue I’m assembling a plein air painting kit and going out as often as I can to paint from life. I think this will add more depth and vitality to the colors of my digital work and make me an overall stronger artist.
